Pam Paquin, owner of the young Boston-based company Petite Mort Furs (translation: little dead furs) creates everything from neck muffs, cats, purses, and more from what she calls “accidental fur”, a.k.a. roadkill.
Paquin believes that she has found an alternative to wild fur trapping and inhumane fur farms. She explains, “all this fur is being thrown away […] If we can pick that up, we never have to kill another fur-bearing animal again”. She gets the animals with the help of animal control and highway department personnel.
Animal rights activists have mixed feelings on this, and Keith Kaplan (head of the Fur Information Council of America) considers all North American furs to be already produced humanly and responsibly, with consideration to the environment.
Would you wear “accidental” fur?
