One Toronto city councillor things Trumps name has no place in the city, calling for his name to be removed from the downtown Trump Tower.
On Tuesday, city councillor Josh Matlow argued Toronto should dissociate itself from the Republican presidential candidate’s “fascist” views.
I believe the owners of Toronto's Trump Tower should change its name. Toronto is a diverse & respectful city. Donald Trump is a fascist.— Josh Matlow (@JoshMatlow) December 8, 2015
The suggestion comes following Trump’s latest outlandish statements, calling on a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.”
Republicans, Democrats, and other world leaders have denounced the statements. Fellow Republican candidate Jeb Bush called Trump “unhinged.” British Prime Minister David Cameron said his suggestion was “divisive, unhelpful and quite simply wrong.”
The mayor of St. Petersburg, Florida, Rick Kriseman, also barred Trump from entering his city until “we fully understand the dangerous threat posed by all Trumps.”
Meanwhile, Trump Toronto is responding to the request to the name removal:
Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto is owned by Talon International Development Inc., a privately-held real estate development company based in Toronto, Canada, and other hotel investors and residential condominium owners. The Trump Organization is the operator of the Hotel, not the owner. Donald Trump’s opinions as a private citizen in no way reflect the position of the company’s views of those of its other investors and owners.
