Two men have been arrested following the seizure of a substance used in the production of date rape drug GHB (Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate).
A couriered shipment that claimed to contain 36 kilograms of Cinnamyl Acetate was intercepted by Canada Border Services Agency on Novemeber 25th.
That substance is legal to possess and is used in the production of some cosmetic products however tests of the substance revealed that it was in fact Gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL), the only restricted ingredient required in the production of Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate.
According to police, the seized GBL was able to produce 264 litres of GHB, and would be representative of 53,000 individual doses of the drug with a street value of approximately $527,000.
30 year old Ayron Borovic of Oshawa and 38 year old Malik Jadavji of Toronto, both alleged importers and recipients of the substance have now been arrested and face 7 charges between them.
