The Ontario government will reveal the details of its plan to create HOT (high-occupancy toll) lanes on GTA highways.
Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca used his twitter account to hint at a Monday morning announcement. His humourous tweet left some feeling that he was making light of a plan that critics have labeled a new tax that benefits only wealthy motorists.
Where will the HOT lanes be located?
The government claims that no general-purpose lanes will be used to create an HOT lane. Many expect that current HOV lanes on highways like the 404 an QEW will be converted into HOT lanes. But will the GO bus lane on the DVP become an HOT lane?
How much will it cost to use the HOT lanes?
Will motorists have to purchase a monthly pass? Would that pass give them access to ALL HOT lanes in the province, or just a specific lane? Will a 407-like transponder be required?
Will these HOT lanes be a boon or bust for the province?
