Ontario’s transportation minister Steven Del Duca announced that high-occupancy toll (HOT) lanes will be coming to the QEW. The pilot project for the QEW will launch by summer 2016, to test the feasibility of HOT lanes in Ontario. They’re specifically thinking of using the stretch between between Trafalgar Road in Oakville and Guelph Line in Burlington.
How will it work? The plan is to convert the HOV lanes (from the Pan Am games this past summer) into HOT lanes, but still allowing 2+ occupants of a car to ride for free. Single occupant drivers will be able to purchase limited monthly permits.
Do you think HOT lanes will better the GTA roads?
