Toronto Mayor John Tory is flying out to Paris, France to take part in climate change discussions that are expected to have a massive impact on the world.
By flying halfway around the world on a jet, isn’t he contributing to the pollution that he and others are seeking to eliminate?
Yes, but the mayor is doing something to offset that pollution.
On Tuesday, Tory revealed that he’ll personally be paying $75 to offset his return trip to Paris (a ticket that is being paid for by the conference). That $75 will buy carbon offsets to mitigate the carbon footprint that his flight will create.
Not sure what carbon offsets are? David Suzuki can help with the explanation!
Have you ever purchased carbon offsets? Do you think this approach will help quash pollution and climate change?
Toronto Councillor Rob Ford criticized the mayor and other climate conference guests for using jets to attend this gathering, instead of connecting via telephone or Skype-like technologies.
The comedy duo Key & Peele highlight why Ford’s idea just won’t work (video below)!
