According to police, it’s an offence to use your handheld phone when driving, even if it’s at a fast food drive-thru.
Last week, A.J. Daoust of Alberta was fined a whopping $287 for distracted driving (texting) while getting a coffee in his car. Chris Rechner of the Alberta Motor Association explained: “It’s the first time I’ve ever heard of that in a drive-thru lineup”.
Police stress that it is important to remain alert at all times when in control of a vehicle: whether you’re at a red light, railway crossing, or in Daoust’s case, at a driver-thru. Daoust was also reportedly rude when confronted by the officer.
Do you think he deserved it?
