The man killed in the city’s latest murder has now been identified by Toronto police.
The shooting incident took place shortly before 5.a.m. on Monday morning when several shots were fired at a vehicle stopped at a red light on Finch Avenue West just west of Highway 27.
At least ten shots are said to have been fired and both occupants of the car, a male and a female sustained gunshot wounds in the attack.
The male victim was taken by a female driver to the old Humber River Hospital location at Finch Avenue and Keele Street, however the facility which is now an urgent care centre was not open at the time.
Paramedics arrived on scene and transported both victims to the new Humber River Hospital on Wilson Avenue.
27 year old Jamahl Darling was pronounced dead upon arrival while the female victim was treated for non life threatening injuries and has since been released.
Providing an update on the investigation on Monday evening, Toronto police say they believe this was a targeted attack and confirmed that Darling was known to police.
They have described the vehicle involved in the shooting was a dark, four-door, newer-model, crossover SUV and say that there was more than one passenger in the vehicle when it was last seen travelling eastbound on Finch Avenue West.
They are urging anyone with information to come forward.
