Const. James Forcillo will be continuing his testimony in a Toronto courtroom today.
Forcillo is testifying in his own defense after pleading not guilty to second degree murder and attempted murder in the death of Sammy Yatim.
The 18-year-old was shot and killed on July 26 2013. Nine bullets were fired by Toronto Police, eight of which hit Yatim, after he refused to get off a TTC Streetcar.
On Wednesday, 32-year-old Forcillo said in trial that he never intended to kill anyone, and he feared an attack from the knife-toting teen. He says he fired his gun in accordance with police training.
Crown prosecutors are arguing that Forcillo’s actions weren’t necessary or reasonable, but the Forcillo’s lawyer has said his actions were justified and carried out in self-defense.
