Wednesday the defense team takes the floor in the murder trial of Toronto cop James Forcillo.
Forcillo is expected to testify in his trial. The constable pleaded not guilty to charges of second degree murder and attempted murder in the death of 18 year old Sammy Yatim.
The crown wrapped up their case on Monday painting the picture of a cop who acted hesitantly in July of 2013, shooting the victim nine times striking Yatim in the heart, spine and arm.
A use of force expert is also likely to take the stand. The case revolves around whether the 32 year old officer’s use of lethal force was reasonable and justified during the 50 second standoff.
Forcillo’s lawyer, Peter Brauti, said he took action in self-defence and to protect others.
