The Federal government has announced plans to settle 25-thousand Syrian refugees in Canada.
Ten thousand refugees will be coming to Canada by the end of the year, with 15,000 to follow by March. Temporary lodging will be at several military bases across Ontario
All screening of refugees will be done overseas, completed with Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey. The government’s priorities will be complete families, women at risk, members of the LGBT community, and single men only if they identify with a LGBT group.
While “there is a short-term cost, there is a long-term gain,” says Immigration Minister John McCullum. The cost reportedly will be over $670 million over the next six years to bring the refugees to Canada.
