A vote by the TTC board on the operating budget for 2016 includes an fare increase
The Commission dealing with a 58 million dollar shortfall in its operating budget for 2016, opted for an increase in adult fares.
Despite protests from Transit advocacy group “TTCRiders” out front City Hall, the board voted to increase the cash fare by 25 cents with tokens going up 10 cents.
“The city needs to contribute their fair share too. Right now they are only contributing 87 cents per ride,” said the chair of TTCRiders, Brenda Thompson.
The price of metropasses will remain unchanged.
The fare hike only effects Adult fares, the price for students and seniors will stay the same.
“We understand taking a hit on the fare side, but we are going to provide better service.” said City councillor Joe Mehevic just before stepping into to the vote.
“That’s always been a better pill to swallow, than just a fare increase”
