Is it possible to be fatally lovestruck? It sounds far-fetched but it turns out the broken hearts club could be more fact than fiction.
Global News’ Tania Kohut writes HERE about the passing of football legend Doug Flutie’s parents, married 55 years, who both died of heart attacks within an hour of each other.
The same thing happened to another couple back in July. They died in each other’s arms just ahead of their 75th wedding anniversary.
But can somebody actually die of a broken heart? The American Heart Association claims that “A real-life broken heart can actually lead to cardiac consequences.”
The medical term for such a departure from this mortal plane of existence is ‘stress-induced cardiomyopathy’ or ‘takotsubo cardiomyopathy’.
It can even happen when happy, positive experiences occur, like when somebody wins a lottery jackpot.
Has somebody in your family died of a ‘broken heart’ after the passing of their spouse?
