The Ontario Government is releasing a new PSA as part of the “It’s Never Okay” campaign, aimed at stopping sexual violence and harassment.
The theme is, “it’s not OK to do, it’s not OK to say,” and depicts “everything from sexual harassment on the job, to expected sexual favours following a date,” according to the government’s website.
The action plan, launched in March 2015, aims at improving services for survivors of sexual harassment, and talking the roots of the issue. The campaign is also geared to Ontarians who are still unsure whether certain behaviors constitute sexual violence and harassment, and when it’s appropriate to step in and help.
The first ad has garnered over 2.5 million views on YouTube, and the government says it reached 85 million people worldwide.
Premier Kathleen Wynne says she believes the previous ad was effective, saying a government-commissioned research found that from when the first ad was released in September, the percentage of Ontarians who believe they have an obligation to intervene when witnessing sexual harassment has increased from 37 to 58 per cent.
