Following the terrorist attacks on Paris, many people took to Facebook to offer their support for the French people.
For people in France, there was even a “Safety Check” option on the Facebook app, which would ask people if they were okay. If ‘Yes’ was selected, Facebook users could ‘Like’ it. The hashtag #prayforparis spread like wildfire on Twitter, being retweeted by millions of people that were not directly affected by the tragedy.
Is posting support for Paris on social media a stirring tribute, or tacky narcissism?
