Donna Quan is to step down as director of education at the Toronto District School Board.
A statement released by the board on Friday confirmed her departure saying the Quan had accepted a secondment to the Ontario Ministry of Education and would now head up a new research project between York University and the province.
The project in question will seek to help schools and school boards collect additional demographic data on their students.
In the statement, Quan said that “my time at the TDSB has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career”
She added that ”Ontario is recognized as one of the best education systems in the world and our Toronto students are achieving and are among the strongest.”
Chair of the TDSB Robin Pilkey has thanked Quan for her years of service saying ”Donna has been a passionate and committed advocate for public education for more than 30 years. It has been a pleasure working with her”.
She is to remain in the role until until a new Interim Director has been appointed by the board.
