Can you really afford to keep your kid enrolled in the good ‘ol hockey game?
A new survey conducted by RESP provider CST Consultants suggests that Canadian parents face great financial strain when trying to finance the cost of youth hockey. Some are even dipping into their RRSPs!
66% of parents are borrowing money or using those aforementioned RRSPs to keep a kid in hockey.
57% believe that every Canadian child should have a chance to play the sport, and therefore cost shouldn’t be a roadblock. That number was as high as 66% in 2014.
46% parents say they or somebody they know has removed their offspring from an extra-curricular activity like hockey due to cost.
1 in 3 parents regret the amount they’ve spent on those extracurricular activities, wishing they had put the money into education instead.
How much are you forking out for your kid’s organized sports? Is it worth every penny? How important is it to enroll your kid in hockey, or soccer, or baseball?
