Toronto police have arrested a 49-year-old suspect in a sexual assault cold case that happened in July of 1990.
Police say the assault happened on July 27, 1990 when a woman was sexually assaulted near Thorncliffe Park.
Police say the suspect gained entry into an apartment through an open window.
The suspect choked the woman and sexually assaulted her.
Police took physical evidence at the time but the suspect wasn’t identified.
In 2013 the case was reviewed and the suspect was identified through DNA testing.
Police then worked with Interpol and British police to locate Austin Wyclef Thomas and bring him to Canada.
Thomas was arrested in the United Kingdom and extradited to Canada to face charges on Tuesday.
