There are some changes in store at this year’s Distillery Christmas Market, opening on November 20th.
There will be charging a $5 admission fee on weekends. Their goal is to “create an unforgettable experience filled with magic and romance” but according to Matthew Rosenblatt (executive producer of the market), they “cannot deliver on that goal if visitors cannot walk around freely and unencumbered”. Last year, the market had almost half a million visitors.
However, it’s not a total money grab: while some proceeds will go to the market’s infrastructure, the net profits will go to the Daily Bread Food Bank, international aid agency Plan Canada and the Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund. The entry will be free from Tuesday – Friday. The market will be closed on Mondays but the shops will be open. This year’s market will also be open for 7 days longer.
With the new $5 cover charge, will you be attending this year?
