Want dental work done for free? Drop your Canadian citizenship and claim refugee status!
Liberal Immigration minister John McCallum revealed to CTV News HERE that the Trudeau government is aiming to reinstate full health care for refugees, which includes dental work, prosthetics and medication. The Conservatives stripped those planks away in 2012 to save money.
McCallum claimed that the move will happen within a few months.
“It was economically foolish. It might have saved a few dollars for the federal government, but people who are really sick don’t just die in the streets. They go to the emergency (rooms) and hospitals, and the cost of that is greater than the cost of what they would have received alternatively,” said McCallum. “We’ve promised to have a new attitude where we welcome newcomers with a smile and not with a scowl.”
The Canadian Doctors for Refugee Care, an advocacy group, is pleased with this news.
The government did not suggest how much this will cost taxpayers, considering the Liberals have pledged to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of 2015,
Do you think Canada can afford to offer free healthcare and medical assistance to thousands of refugees? Is it fair to offer things like medication and dental work to newcomers, while Canadian citizens who have paid taxes for years are refused that same approach? Shouldn’t the government extend the same coverage to our struggling seniors?
One comment to CTV News wondered why Canada should offer medical help to thousands of young Syrian men and women who have decided not to stay in Syria to fight for their homeland.
