Toronto-based animal rights activist Anita Krajnc will have to explain herself in court come November to respond to mischief charges.
She gave water to pigs.
The piggies were headed to a Burlington slaughterhouse on a hot day in June. The truck that was hauling these pot-bellied prisoners stopped at an intersection. That’s when Krajnc leapt into action.
A bystander captured footage of the confrontation between Krajnc and the pigs’ owner Eric Van Hoekel.
Hoekel insisted that the pigs aren’t human, while Krajnc urged him to have compassion.
Hoekel called police, who filed his complaint and laid the charge against the founder of Toronto Pig Save in October.
Krajnc argues that pigs are “living beings. They want to live and they have rights.”
She and her supporters staged a little protest outside the Milton courthouse Wednesday. A guilty verdict could land the bacon hater a maximum fine of $5,000.
See the video below from a few years back, when Krajnc and others pulled the same stunt.
