A Brampton firefighter has sparked a blaze over his Facebook post criticizing a two truck driver’s crash with a GO Train Friday morning.
Firefighter Captain Darren LaCroix decided that his personal Facebook page was a great place to post a link about the fatal crash. Tow truck driver Randy Muzzi, 54, was killed after his vehicle was hit by a GO Train at 6:30 am near Lisgar GO station.
Muzzi was at the scene of a multi-vehicle collision, helping to direct traffic according to a friend’s report HERE in the Toronto Star. He parked his truck on the train tracks. When the traffic barrier arms came down around his truck, blocking it in, Muzzi tried unsuccessfully to move it out of the way before the GO Train arrived.
In his now deleted post, LaCroix asked “Are all GTA tow truck drivers f**** idiots?” and continued with “Ya buddy at least you only hurt yourself this time and inconvenienced everybody else.”
He deleted this post, and replaced it with one that stated he had no idea that the driver had lost his life, and expressed apologies and condolences to the victim’s friends and family.
Brampton Fire Chief Michael Clark told CP24 HERE that he’s shocked by one his member’s comments, and that LaCroix will be given a stern talking to.
“From what I’ve seen from the posting, we’re shocked and offended by it, and I don’t know what his personal issue is with tow truck operators but speaking for myself and his colleagues we see the tow trucks operators as our partners and we have a good working relationship with them,” Clark said in his statement. “I really don’t know where this originated and we are as shocked and surprised by this as anyone else.”
