A proposal has been submitted to remove the world famous Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville and turn it into a sprawling housing subdivision. Oakville Mayor Rob Burton made mention of the plan at a city council meeting while issuing his annual town status report. The proposal calls for the construction of nearly 3,000 residential units as well as mixed-use office and retail space. The course held the Canadian Open last July, and has been home to twenty-seven Canadian Opens, and is scheduled to hold it again next year.
Developing luxury homes would generate property tax and golf is a struggling business, but should the course be saved for historical reasons?
