Alex Anthopoulos is hitting the job market of Major League Baseball.
It has been confirmed by the Toronto Blue Jays that the G.M, who has just a few days left on his current contract has rejected an extension to remain with the club.
The move comes less than a week after the Jays were eliminated from the post-season by the Kansas City Royals.
Reports also suggest the split is not money related so already there are rumours swirling suggesting the move has something to do with Mark Shapiro’s arrival.
He is set to take over as president next week, succeeding the retiring Paul Beeston.
A statement issued by Paul Beeston on Thursday morning confirmed that Anthopoulos had ”reluctantly and regrettably” decided to leave the club.
He added that ”Alex had done an unbelievable job and positioned us well for the future”
He also extended his thanks to Anthopoulos saying that ”on behalf of all the employees of the Toronto Blue Jays, players, front office, scouts and player development staff we wish him luck in the future and thanks him for a job extremely well done”
