Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne announced Wednesday that the government has not yet paid the $2.5 million to three teachers’ unions, a financial arrangement revealed by a Globe & Mail investigation last week.
Wynne also announced that she is asking the unions to provide receipts to show what they spent money on during contract negotiations.
This move caught the legislature by surprise Wednesday, especially since Education Minister Liz Sandals previously stated that receipts were not necessary.
Wynne also responded to the PC’s demands that the auditor general take a peek at this secret arrangement between the government and the unions. She said that Bonnie Lysyk is free to examine anything she likes.
