Good news if you’re a pet lover dining in New York State – you can now ask for a table for two… and your dog!
Governor Andrew Cuomo has just signed legislation making it legal for restaurants to allow Man’s Best Friend to join diners on the patio. Sorry cat owners, your feline friend will not be able to enjoy the same luxury!
Effective now, restaurants have the power to allow dogs on their patios, but no establishments will be forced to adopt such an approach.
Guide dogs have always been allowed to accompany their owners on a patio, but this law now encompasses “companion dogs”, meaning a dog that accompanies a person “for the purpose of companionship or convenience.”
Williamsville’s Irishman Pub is planning on offering two separate outdoor dining areas – one for patrons with canines and the other for those without.
So instead of being asked “smoking or non-smoking”, you’ll be asked “fur or non-fur”!
