Kansas city Royals’ pitcher Edison Volquez started Game 1 of the World Series without any knowledge of his father’s passing earlier that day.
At the wishes of his family back in the Dominican Republic, team management withheld the sad news from him until after he came out of the game.
Volquez pitched six innings, giving up three runs as the Royals took Game 1 by a score of 5-4 in 14 innings.
After finding out, he left Kauffman Stadium with his family before the the game’s completion.
Do you think this was the right call, not telling Edison until after he came out of the game? Should he have found out before it happened, and then made a call as to whether to play or not?
