Once the stuff of Hollywood action scenes, knife-throwing is becoming a popular activity for a night out in Toronto. For a devoted few, it is a regular hobby. Instructors at the Toronto Knife Throwing Organization once practiced in backyards, but quickly outgrew them as word spread and many people showed interest in joining. Last week, they opened Toronto’s newest knife throwing venue, in East York. They have fifty members who practice on targets in ten throwing lanes in a former empty warehouse space. It is not the only place in Toronto where one can learn the art of chucking a knife, a sign of its popularity. Fellow Corus employees have an axe throwing group where they head to the range every few weeks and well, throw axes!
Is this a disconcerting hobby? Would you participate? Should we be worried about promoting violence?
