An extensive human trafficking investigation has resulted in over 130 charges for nearly 50 people.
Operation Northern Spotlight also saw the rescue and release of 20 victims who were forced into the sex trade; the majority of them under 19 years old.
Police agencies from both Canada and the US worked together on the investigation.
Charges for the accused include sexual assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and child pornography.
“Human trafficking investigations are complex and labor intensive and we must continue to fight for the rights of those victims who are often from vulnerable sectors of our population.” – OPP Deputy Commissioner Scott Tod.
