Ontario Provincial Police now say it was a dog and not a coyote that was run over by an officer multiple times and then shot in Collingwood, Ontario. The community was outraged after a video of the incident was posted online and has since gone viral. Police initially said that the animal was a coyote and officers were responding to a report that it was aggressive and possibly rabid. But OPP Acting Sergeant Lynda Cranney confirmed on the animal was in fact someone’s dog. She said police have been in contact with the owner and an investigation into the incident is ongoing. Animal activists are outraged by the incident, bringing up memories of the Newmarket bear.
Was this an overreaction by police? Should police respond to animal calls?
