Jimmy Cauchon, the John Oakley Show’s Technical Producer, attended the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Sunday to support his daughter’s full 42km marathon run.
She made it 30 of 42km before tapping out due to fatigue and injury.
Jimmy, being the proud father that is, wanted to see his offspring leave with something honouring the hard work she put into the event. She trained for months, paid the racing fee, and prepared herself for a run that has led to the death of participants in past outings.
He asked the organizers for a medal that is handed out to participants who successfully complete the full 42km run. The medal reads “2015 finisher”.
Jimmy thinks it was appropriate to give her something to acknowledge her achievement. She did, after all, complete 30km, which is equal to at least 1 half-marathon.
Do you think she deserved a medal? Did Jimmy make the right decision? Did he do what so many parents do nowadays?
