The former head of the Provincial Conservatives says it’s time to end the “guerrilla warfare” and embrace what the public wants.
Tim Hudak says Ontario should pass legislation to make Uber legal. The MPP is going to be introducing a private members bill in a few weeks to that effect, and expanding it so other sharing services, such as AirBnB and Rover can operate under clear rules.
Hudak says this would not only invite more business to Ontario, but it would give the average Joe the chance to earn income from assets they already own.
“Too many Ontario families are living paycheque to paycheque and would be hard-pressed to afford an unexpected expense. The opportunity to earn additional income from their car, home or driveway would be a minor miracle for those families. While controversial, the sharing economy provides incredible opportunity for our province, and if we want Ontario to be an innovative economy and open the door to jobs we need to welcome these new opportunities – not stand in their way. My Bill will encourage greater competition, innovation, entrepreneurship and consumer choice, and therefore will provide a net benefit to Ontario residents and businesses.” – Tim Hudak, MPP Niagara West-Glanbrook.
