York Regional Police are urging increased vigilance in the wake of several recent sexual assaults in the Newmarket area.
In an effort to apprehend the suspect, police have released security camera footage of one of the attacks, which shows a woman when a woman who was pushing a stroller or shopping cart in the Upper Canada Mall parking lot approached from behind by the suspect who then grabs her buttocks.
The suspect then flees the area on foot.
Its thought the woman stopped to write and text message and the attack happened while she was distracted, it’s just one of 5 such incidents in the area since mid August.
Police believe that one man is behind all of the attacks, he has been described as a white male aged between 20 and 25, small, about 5 foot five, weighing about 125 pounds.
He is said to walk with a limp and always wears a hoodie.
Police are also warning that the attacks are becoming more violent and point to the most recent attack which took place on Tuesday as an example.
It took place in the area of Yonge and Green Lane when the suspect wrestled a woman to the ground and tried to remove her pants.
