Toronto Zoo has announced a Canadian first.
Er Shun, the zoo’s female giant panda, has given birth to twin cubs.
The first cub was born at 3.31 a.m on Tuesday, with the second born just moments later, the sex of the cubs is not yet known.
The cubs, who weighed in at 187 and 115 grams will remain in the maternity area of the Giant Panda House for the next few months and will not be visible to the public with the zoo calling the next next several hours and days ‘critical’ to their survival.
However it says that Er Shun is demonstrating excellent maternal instincts and the mom and cubs appear to be doing well.
