A 24-year-old man charged with 3 counts related to impaired driving, is likely to see those charges elevated due to a fatality.
The accused Jared DeJong was driving the car which jumped a curb and hit 18 year old Andrea Christidis on Wednesday night.
Christidis has since succumbed to her injuries at London Health Sciences Centre, reported on Friday.
DeJong was reported to have lost control of his vehicle which struck down the Western University student as she was walking on campus.
The university’s campus newspaper reports that Christidis was a first-year health sciences student who lived at Medway-Sydenham Hall and was from Scarborough.
The driver DeJong has been charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, impaired operation causing bodily harm and having in excess of 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood, however, it’s expected the charges will now be upgraded in light of the death. He is currently out on $1,500 bail and due in court, November 3.
