The City of Montreal announced it was, then wasn’t and now again will be dumping some 8 billion litres of raw sewage into the St. Lawrence River as an elevated expressway is brought to ground level and a snow chute currently under the expressway has to be moved. Environmentalists and some City of Montreal politicians remain in opposition. The alternative, according to the city is to build a $1 billion diversion or temporary waste water retention facility.
