It’s toted as “Yelp -but for humans”, and is the latest controversial app to take the social media world by storm.
The app, known as ‘Peeple’, allows users to review and give star ratings to anyone that they know: co-workers, neighbours, family members, an ex, etc. Peeple, which has yet to be released, is already stirring up controversy as many critics are calling it the next step in cyber-bullying. While the company for the app is saying, “Peeple will enhance your online reputation for access to better quality networks, top job opportunities, and promote more informed decision making about people”, many are left with a bad taste in their mouth as the app could be used for more cynical means.
With this in mind, ‘Peeple’ has added a few features to help to counteract any bullying that may happen. For example, positive ratings are published immediately, negative ratings and those with low star ratings are held for 48 hours. It’s up to the person being reviewed to “work it out” with the reviewer in a private message format.
Would you like being reviewed and rated by friends and co-workers? Are you afraid of what others may say of you?
