The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario has filed a complaint against the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association.
They are alleging that the two organizations have engaged in unfair labour practice, and have not met their obligations to bargain in good faith.
The accusation filed with the Ontario Labour Relations Board claims that the government declared they would not return to the bargaining table unless the ETFO agreed to specific demands, on of them being that the ETFO would have to agree to some of the same contract details that the Ontario Secondary School Teacher’s Federation recently said “yes” to.
The ETFO claims that their elementary school teachers have different needs and there are different social issues at play in the schools they govern. Therefore, their negotiations should reflect that, and a better deal than the one that secondary school teachers made should be constructed.
