You can expect another heated debate this week at City Hall as councillors debate the future of the ride share, Uber, in Toronto.
Coincidentally, a couple of surveys were released Tuesday and both have to do with the service.
One was done by a Toronto-based management consultancy firm, Satov Consultants. It finds usage of Uber is growing in all major cities where it’s currently operating, and overall, Uber usage is already 28% higher than traditional taxis. And those who have used the service say they will stick with it.
The second survey/report was commissioned by Beck Taxi and it finds a 2-tiered taxi system will not only increase congestion and vehicle emissions, but it could also lead to the ride share upping it’s rates, so it wouldn’t necessarily always be the less expensive option.
Taxi drivers in Toronto have long complained about the operation of Uber, saying it has an unfair advantage and is taking away their business.
