A primary school in Scotland is forcing its children to run a mile every day. Teachers have tasked their pupils with this routine for the last three years.
The kids are made to run on the school’s trace, known at The Yellow Brick Road. The students do not change clothes after the run has concluded.
“The benefits are there for all to see. The school nurse recently reported that there are no overweight P1s in the school. We think this could be because the children have been participating in the project since nursery,” said Elaine Wylie, teacher at St . Ninians.
The results? St. Ninians Primary boasts that none of their students overweight!
Daily runs are quickly becoming the norm in London, Wales, and other schools in Scotland.
Is it a school’s responsibility to keep students physically fit and in shape? Would this approach work in Canadian schools?
