The Conservatives have vowed to increase the number of Canadian homeowners by 700,000 by 2020.
Party leader Stephen Harper said home ownership is “one of the most unmistakable marks of economic success.”
How the heck do they plan on achieving? Well, that’s hard to figure out.
The plan to push the homeownership rate to 72.5% from 66% will includes a permanent home renovation tax credit, new jobs and economic growth. They also plan to address foreign ownership of Canadian residential real estate.
That still doesn’t seem like much of a game plan!
What does the government need to do in order to generate more Canadian homeowners? Are foreign buyers solely to blame for skyrocketing home prices? Is it better to rent than to buy?
