The city has deferred the debate on garbage collection east of Yonge until next year.
The public works committee voted today to delay the debate until the fourth quarter of 2016.
A staff report last week advised against contracting out garbage collection east of Yonge St. the report found that it may actually cost more in at least one east-end district, despite a savings of $11 million each year in the west end.
Mayor Tory promised multiple times in his mayoral election campaign to contract out garbage east of Yonge.
Deferring the debate until next year put’s off possibly breaking that promise.
