After her thirteen year old son told her that she could not control him during a fight over homework, an Australian single mother wrote out a punishment letter to her son that has gone viral. She wanted to teach her son a lesson: If you want to be treated like an adult, you have to start acting like one. To make a point, she took away his clothes, comforter, toys and even the lightbulbs in his room. If he wanted them back, he would have to pay for rent, electricity, internet and food. He would also have to complete daily chores. When her son read the letter, he stormed off, took a long walk and eventually apologized for his behavior. The mother posted a photo of the letter on Facebook and more than 160,000 people shared her letter and nearly 14,000 commented on it. Some commended her for her creative parenting tactics while others claim she was too harsh.

Was she too tough on the thirteen year old? Should parents publicly shame their children on social media?
