Voting is now underway in Greece for what is now the third national election in that country this year.
The Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of the left-wing Syriza party is seeking another term.
He is looking to implement austerity measures in return for billions of euros in rescue loans, which was marginally ahead of the centre-right New Democracy in the latest polls prior to the vote.
However, the surveys indicated that the 9.9 million voters were undecided until two days before voting began.
There were also signs that they might abstain altogether, indicated the winner would not be able to collect enough votes to form a government by itself.
The polls are set to close at 7 p.m. (1600 GMT) and the final results are expected to be released on Monday.
