The federal government will ask the Supreme Court of Canada to overturn the decision of the Federal Court that a Pakistani Muslim immigrant woman may wear her niqab while swearing the Canadian Oath of Citizenship.
David Butt is a criminal lawyer in Toronto that represented a Muslim who accused several men of sexual assault. The criminal court case included the woman requesting the right to wear a niqab while testifying. This issue did go to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Instead of dealing with one incident at a time concerning wearing a niqab, let’s broaden the issue to fit all of Canadian society.
Are you prepared to accept face veils being worn at all times during all Canadian experiences? That includes jurors in criminal trials, future Muslim Supreme Court Justices wearing a niqab, police officers, Canada Customs agents, and even your child’s teachers?
