A magnitude 8.3 earthquake which struck off the coast of Chile on Wednesday night has left 8 people dead.
More than a million have been evacuated after the quake which shook the Earth so strongly that it was felt across South America and triggered a small tsunami which led to flooding in several coastal towns.
Numerous aftershocks have since been felt including one which registered a 7 on the Richter scale.
The quake is the strongest to hit the region since a powerful tremor and tsunami killed hundreds in southern Chile in 2010.
Hawaii and part of California’s coast are under tsunami advisories as a result.
