During a campaign event in Vancouver, NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair answer a question about Toronto being a potential bidder for the 2024 Olympics by saying “I think that seeing Canada’s most important city, Toronto, getting those Olympics – I think that’s a door we should keep open.”
Not sure the Vancouverites present in that crowd appreciated those thoughts!
Vancouver Centre Liberal candidate Hedy Fry called his response bizarre, and panned the leader for playing municipal favourites.
“What are we, chopped liver?!?” Fry asked.
Mulcair has highlighted Toronto in this way many times in the past. At the start of this current election campaign, when he appeared in Toronto, he exclaimed “It’s great to be back in Canada’s most important city.”
Various social media platforms exploded with disgruntled discussion about Mulcair’s love for Toronto.
Is Mulcair correct in designating Toronto the most important part of Canada? Is it the most vital organ in the body known as Canada? Will this crush his election chances?
