Ontario has a long delayed in-vitro fertilization treatment plan in place and looks to launch it in the near future. Some provinces have plans in place, Quebec started funding IVF treatments in 2010 but costs have skyrocketed since it’s launch. Ontario is trying to learn from the Quebec plan to make sure similar things don’t happen. An expert panel is pushing that Ontario exclude the severely obese and anyone over 42. The panel has more criteria that must be met in order for the Ontario plan to cover IVF treatments. If criteria aren’t put into place cost over runs could happen and Ontario could be in a similar situation to Quebec.
