Germany has introduced temporary border controls after thousands of migrants entered the country. Germany and Austria agreed to let in migrants who had massed in Hungary, calling it a one-time measure to ease an emergency. The flow continued undiminished and while Germans have remained welcoming, officials said the numbers were straining the country’s ability to provide accommodations. Meanwhile, Canada’s former chief of defense, Rick Hillier has said that Canada should welcome fifty thousand migrants before Christmas. This number is double what the Liberals have recommended. Hillier laid out a plan that includes a national meeting of municipal, provincial and federal leaders, as well as faith groups and social organizations.
