Players from the Cobourg Cougars Junior A hockey team are off the hook after an investigation by the OPP.
Multiple sources tell AM640 that the players and senior members of the organization were informed that there would be no charges resulting from a party in March that some players attended.
The party involved serious allegations of a sexual assault at a house party.
The Ontario Junior Hockey League team wrote in a statement in March that they were “fully co-operating with the authorities in their investigation”.
The allegations arose after comments on social media popped up that read “Whoever hooked up with the most broads last night gets the cup #consentisoverrated.”
The team always said the tweet didn’t come from one of their players. They say “that tweet, the hashtag and the person who tweeted it are in no way affiliated with the Cobourg Cougars,”
Our source says the team now hopes to put this chapter behind them and continue to focus on playing the game they love.
The OPP couldn’t be reached for comment.
